This is a “zero-bypass” tool for the Stagg XF. It works by squishing the filters against the sides of the brewer to lessen the amount of bypass.
There’s 2 variations: The Filter Smoosher by itself (“Tool Only”) and a version that includes an anti-clog mesh for $5 more (“Tool + Mesh”). This mesh isn’t mandatory, but it can help prevent clogging to make your brews more consistent.
Note: This tool is significantly larger than the Stagg X version (60% larger), thus the higher price. This version is NOT compatible with the Stagg X.
There’s 2 main methods to brew with the Filter Smoosher:
Method 1: Put a Stagg XF filter in the brewer and wet it. Press the Filter Smoosher down into the filter, turning as you go.
Method 2: Hold the Filter Smoosher upside down over the sink. Center a 12-cup coffee filter over the Filter Smoosher. Wet the filter, flatten it to the sides of the tool, and insert into the brewer.
